Bangkok is home to many floating markets, but Kwan-Riam Floating Market is said to have the most enchanting love story. Local legend tells of a couple who fell in love and made promises to each other here. However, family interference led the woman to move to the city, where she lived a life of luxury. Yet, she eventually yearned to return to her roots to start over and find the man she once hoped to spend her life with. But when she came back, she realized she couldn’t turn back time and left quietly with a heavy heart. This story was later turned into a film,“The Scars of Love (The Story of Kwan and Riam)” often regarded as the Thai version of Romeo and Juliet.

This is a traditional market in Bangkok, Thailand. The goods sold here are less commercialized, mostly consisting of local specialties and small souvenirs. The clientele is primarily locals. With so many stalls, tourists unsure where to start can look for certified signs indicating reputable or uniquely tasty vendors. Families with children will also enjoy this place, as there’s an adorable animal area where you can get up close to and feed llamas. You can also take a boat ride along the river—the fare is flexible, and the guides are often kids practicing their English.
