▲ Golden Lake Plaza is directly connected to the first floor of HowHow Golden Lake Hotel, and luxury shoppers are sure to love it. However, premium luxury goods are only available for purchase by travelers departing from Kinmen; those returning to Taiwan can only buy “offshore island duty-free” items.

Opened in 2014, HowHow Golden Lake Hotel is connected to the duty-free mall Golden Lake Plaza, with a combined total area of 9,000 ping. The first-floor lobby of the hotel provides direct access to the duty-free store, which features international luxury brands, department stores, a cinema, and a food court. It is currently Asia’s largest duty-free store, covering an area even larger than the hotel itself.

Chen Chung-wei, Director of Guest Services at HowHow Golden Lake Hotel, stated that both the hotel and the mall belong to the HowHow Group but operate independently. The hotel has a total of 276 suites, including standard rooms, Golden Lake rooms, HowHow suites, and even a 48-ping presidential suite on the 15th floor priced at NT$108,000.

Chen Chung-wei noted that due to Kinmen’s unique geographical location, the hotel is positioned as a blend of leisure and business. For cross-strait conferences, Kinmen is an ideal location where guests can both work and relax. He said, “The hotel rooms are equipped with daybeds, rattan chairs, light-toned décor, and soft lighting—all designed to create a relaxed and leisurely atmosphere, helping guests unwind and truly enjoy their vacation.” Additionally, the hotel’s second floor features a 200-ping conference hall that can be divided into four smaller rooms to accommodate up to 270 people. There is also a large banquet hall that can host up to 80 tables.

Chen Chung-wei revealed that all the artworks displayed in the hotel are 100% authentic, with many being part of the owner’s personal collection—such as the Yellow River oil painting and the Thousand-Armed Guanyin statue in the first-floor lobby. There are also masterpieces, such as the calligraphed by famed calligrapher Chan Hsiu-jung. The third-floor Golden Lake Art Gallery is one of the few large hotel spaces offering such a large permanent gallery area, hosting themed exhibitions every six months. The current exhibition features works by Kinmen artist Chu Fang-ben, showcasing his “ceramic repair” art—restoring broken ceramics to wholeness.
