Snow on Yangmingshan Mountain? Yangmingshan Police: There are 2 popular snow-viewing spots; last occurrence was in 1992

"Will Yangmingshan get snow?" can be said to be the hottest topic amid the recent cold snap in northern Taiwan. Many people have even prepared to hike up the mountain for a chance to see snow. Based on past experience, the "Erziping Visitor Center" on the Datun Mountain range and the "Datun Mountain Aid Station," which sits at an elevation of 1,077 meters, are both likely to become popular snow-viewing spots. Although there are still no signs of snowfall at present, the Yangmingshan Police Team has also made plans and will implement traffic controls on routes such as Balaka and Yangjin when necessary, allowing visitors to hike up the mountain on foot.

According to statistics from the Yangmingshan Management Office, the last time Yangmingshan actually experienced snowfall was back in 1992, when areas including Datun Mountain and Qixing Mountain both had records of snow. Most of the occurrences involved only light hail or sleet. Whether this year’s low temperatures will bring snow still depends on factors such as air temperature and humidity.

In response to visitors’ hopes of seeing snow on the mountain and to ensure the safety of both pedestrians and vehicles,the Yangmingshan Police Team will also implement traffic controls at the entrances of the Tamsui end, Yangjin Highway, and Balaka Highway when it snows. It is recommended that visitors drive to the intersections of Yangjin Highway and Balaka Highway before hiking approximately 1 kilometer to reach the Erziping Visitor Center, with the one-way hike taking about 40 minutes.But it is estimated that there will be massive traffic congestion at the foot of the mountain.
