2016 Spring Festival Travel Alert: 10 Popular Scenic Spots in Taiwan Prone to Traffic Jams

This year’s Spring Festival holiday stretches over nine consecutive days. In addition to returning home to reunite with family, people can also plan trips during this festive period. To ensure a safe, smooth, and enjoyable Spring Festival holiday for the public, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has identified 10 popular scenic spots likely to experience congestion based on past holiday travel patterns,and has proposed traffic diversion measures. It also advises on 13 shuttle bus routes serving tourist areas, “Taiwan Good to Go” sightseeing buses, and “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle” public transport services.The public is encouraged to make use of these options.

To encourage the public to use public transportation during the Spring Festival, the Tourism Bureau and related agencies have planned 13 shuttle bus routes in key tourist areas such as Jinguashi, Jiufen, Sun Moon Lake, Alishan, Guanziling, Maolin, and Taroko, while also strengthening traffic management on major access roads to these destinations.

Popular Congested Scenic Spots and Traffic Diversion Measures During the Spring Festival Holiday

Northern Taiwan
1. Jinguashi and Jiufen Area(Provincial Highway 2, County Road 102)
It is recommended to take the “Taiwan Good to Go” Golden Fulong Line or choose a “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle” Jiufen and Northeast Coast tour.
2. Nanzhuang Area(County Road 124, Nanzhuang Section)
It is recommended to take the “Taiwan Good to Go” Nanzhuang Line, Shishan Nanzhuang Line, or choose a “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle” Miaoli Nanzhuang tour.

Central Taiwan
1. Sun Moon Lake Area (Provincial Highway 21, Yuchi Street Section)
It is recommended to take the “Taiwan Good to Go” Sun Moon Lake Line, Sun Moon Lake Lake Cruise Bus, or choose a “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle” Sun Moon Lake tour.
2. Xitou Area and Monster Village(County Road 151)
It is recommended to take the “Taiwan Good to Go” Xitou Line or choose a “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle” Xitou tour.

Southern Taiwan
1Alishan(Provincial Highway 18, Alishan Forest Recreation Area and Chukou Longyin Temple Sections)
It is recommended to take the “Taiwan Good to Go” Alishan Line or choose a “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle” Alishan tour.

2. Beimen Wedding Photo Spot including Beimen Visitor Center(Old Provincial Highway 17 Entrance in Beimen City – City Route 171 – Southern Route 15)
It is recommended to take the “Taiwan Good to Go” Salt Country Coastal Line or choose a “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle” Salt Country Stroll tour.

3. Guanziling(County Highway 172B and the route from Xiancaopu to Guanziling on Highway 175)
It is recommended to take the Guanziling Holiday Loop Bus, the “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle” Guanziling-Wushantou Line, or choose the “Taiwan Sightseeing Bus” Wushantou and Guanziling itinerary.

4. Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial Center(Section of Provincial Highway 21 near the Buddha Memorial Center)
It is recommended to take the “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle” – Dashu Blessing Line or choose the “Taiwan Sightseeing Bus” Foguangshan itinerary.

5. Kenting(Section of Provincial Highways 17 and 1 near Shuǐdǐliáo)
It is recommended to take the “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle” – Kenting Express or choose the “Taiwan Sightseeing Bus” Kenting and Hengchun Peninsula itinerary.

Eastern Taiwan
1. Chulu Ranch(Section of Provincial Highway 9 and County Highway 37-1)
It is recommended to take the “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle” – Longitudinal Valley Luye Line.

Additionally,the “Taiwan Sightseeing Bus” has launched a total of 57 packaged tour itineraries during the Spring Festival, while the “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle” operates 39 sightseeing bus services to major attractions.Those who prefer not to drive or find parking can also make good use of these options.
