Only until Valentine’s Day! Limited-time “mini light rail” comes to Kaohsiung Pier-2

Since last year, Kaohsiung Pier-2 Art District has pioneered Taiwan’s first mini steam train open to the public, earning high praise. With the holiday break approaching, it is now introducing the “Mini Light Rail” train, along with two newly designed mini steam trains. Starting today, four types of mini trains are waiting for visitors at Kaohsiung Pier-2!

The Kaohsiung Museum of History stated that riding on the wave of Kaohsiung’s light rail popularity, this year they have specially launched a mini light rail train. Compared to the regular light rail’s four carriages, the mini light rail comes with six carriages as standard, though the number may be adjusted up or down depending on passenger flow.

In addition, two newly designed vintage-style steam locomotives have also been introduced this year. However, unlike the steam locomotive King DT650 model, these two new models are electric-powered in response to environmental concerns. Therefore, those wishing to experience a coal-fired steam train can still only ride the DT650 model. The Kaohsiung Museum of History noted that the four mini trains not only showcase the evolution of train technology but also help the public understand the development and historical background of Kaohsiung city.

The Kaohsiung Museum of History stated thatthe steam locomotive King DT650 model has designated operating times, which are January 23, 24, January 31, and February 8–14, totaling ten days,while the mini light rail and the two new steam trains operate on a random dispatch system. Passengers will take turns boarding based on a numbered ticketing system after purchasing tickets.
