“Guang Yi Coffee” has a sequel！Berry salad and cappuccino perfect for spring and summer

But this “Guang Yi Xuji” may not need much introduction either—it’s already pretty popular. The original Guang Yi Coffee was located on one of the busiest alleys near Zhongshan Station, on the second floor—so it was both away from the shopping crowds and happened to face a full window view of green trees and maple-scented scenery. After being featured on various blogs, it now fills up every weekend afternoon. A few months ago, Guang Yi Coffee got its sequel, with a clever name: “Guang Yi Xuji,” located right across the street from the original Guang Yi. Though the storefront view isn’t as wide as the first branch, it’s lush with greenery. The two Guang Yi cafes complement each other, both bringing good vibes.

Aside from the window-side single seats, my favorite is this one. Also by the window, it features a slightly vintage soft chair, paired with a small tea table and a lamp, creating a cozy, undisturbed nook. It might be a bit of a pretentious hipster spot, but it really suits my taste. If I didn’t need to use a laptop and had to sit at a higher table, I’d definitely choose this seat. Similar to the first Guang Yi Coffee, the interior decor here also features dried flowers and vintage furnishings. I’m personally not a big fan of overly lush greenery as café décor, but it looks quite nice here too. I took a photo with my phone, and the result didn’t turn out too bad.

Guang Yi Xuji rents out spaces from the second floor all the way to the fourth. While the staff prepared my order, I took the slightly steep terrazzo stairs up to check out the upper floors. The vibe here is completely different from the second floor—much cozier. By the window is a large oval table, perfect for family gatherings. Most cafés usually have large rectangular tables, right? Guang Yi is truly unique here.

The fourth floor is currently a semi-outdoor space, with tables and chairs set up. But according to Guang Yi Xuji’s info, both the third and fourth floors can be used for art and cultural exhibitions or rented out as event spaces. Just imagine sitting on the rooftop terrace on a beautiful day—that would be an incredibly delightful experience.

Every time I come to Guang Yi, my favorite dish is their salad. On my previous two visits to the first branch, I ordered the Angel Egg Salad. This time, I wanted something different, so I went for the Berry Salad (NT$235). Their salads are moderately sized, leaning a bit more generous, with fresh and crisp greens. Unlike the rich flavor of the Angel Egg Salad, the Berry Salad mainly features strawberries, dried cranberries, and nuts—a refreshing taste perfect for spring and summer.

Cappuccino. Does coffee only come paired with cake? With this order, I’m already close to NT$400—not exactly cheap.

In the afternoon, the crowd gradually poured in, and nearby seats started filling up. I ordered another caramel apple tart, and the staff gave me a discount by bundling it with my coffee.

If you want to visit Guang Yi Xuji for some quiet time, weekdays are recommended—or come right when they open at 11:30 AM on weekends.
