Here's another must-visit stylish spot in Tokyo, Japan — a restaurant in the Omotesando area that centers around the concept of "Kawaii for the next generation." Inside, it's packed with cute aesthetics yet infused with bizarre and eccentric elements. Stepping inside feels like entering the music video set of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. Even the food and drinks come in neon, rainbow colors, and from time to time, MONSTER GIRLS appear on the central spinning stage, dancing wildly to the music.

Known as Tokyo’s new hotspot, "KAWAII MONSTER CAFE" is tucked inside a building in Shibuya. Its interior is colorful, dreamy, and infused with a psychedelic, anti-reality style. Designed by the art director behind Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s music videos, X? GUNHO SHOKAI, the color palette and atmosphere are similar to those in her videos, but actually go even further — more avant-garde, more subversive, and more playful.

“What we’re offering is the ‘NEXT KAWAII’ vibe,” says Kikue Zenko, PR representative for "KAWAII MONSTER CAFE." One of the restaurant’s biggest draws is its six-member “MONSTER GIRLS.” Gender doesn’t matter — once they put on their custom costumes, they instantly become the stars of the show. “Here, we don’t talk about whether the MONSTER GIRLS are male or female. All you need to know is that they are the main attraction.” Standing on the cake carousel that serves as the stage feels like entering a quirky amusement park, where everything in the real world becomes fantastical.

Everything seems to be falling apart, yet within this melting, fragmented world, an eerie childlike atmosphere begins to take over."KAWAII MONSTER CAFE" is divided into four themed zones: MUSHROOM DISCO is a forest filled with poisonous mushrooms; MILK STAND features seating surrounded by giant unicorns and goats being fed through IV tubes above the seats; BAR EXPERIMENT is the bar area with hazy tones that feel like stepping into a cave; and Mel-Tea ROOM is a girly, colorful space.

As for the food, it also offers a wild mix of colors — there are rainbow-hued drinks and pasta designed to look like painted palettes. Aside from the strange color combinations, the taste isn’t quite up to par with restaurants that focus on cuisine. But if you’re visiting Tokyo’s new hotspot, "KAWAII MONSTER CAFE," perhaps how good the food tastes isn’t the most important thing.
