Sixteen thousand cherry blossoms blanket Sanzhi — the “moving forest” becomes the hottest hidden gem for hanami

The “Sanzhi Cherry Blossom Festival” is one of the annual highlights of cherry blossom viewing in New Taipei City. This year, it kicks off on the 19th. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful blooms of mountain cherries, Yoshino cherries, and other varieties as they flower throughout the season. In addition to classic hanami spots, there’s a “moving forest” in Sanzhi that has recently become a viral hidden attraction online — rows of cherry trees stretch along the road, creating some of the most stunning scenery in the area.

Over 20 years ago, the Sanzhi District Office began planting cherry trees, and today the region is home to more than 16,000 cherry trees, mainly mountain cherries, Yoshino cherries, and double-flowered cherries. In recent years, it has become one of the most popular cherry blossom destinations for residents of New Taipei City.

The hidden hanami gem in the Sanzhi area, known as the “moving forest,” is located around the Longyan Zhenlong Temple in Sanzhi. Over 500 cherry trees cover an entire hillside, and when the blooming season arrives, visitors can admire vast seas of pink and white blossoms. Travelers can enjoy varieties such as the Ohkan or late-blooming cherry and Yoshino cherry here. With the season in full swing, it’s the perfect time to visit.
