On our way back from Kenting to Kaohsiung, as the sky grew darker and we weren’t sure where to have dinner, my husband suddenly suggested going to Chaozhou for a meal. We had originally wanted to eat stir-fried rice noodles, but when we realized we had already passed that area, I thought we could just grab something simple. Then we considered going for oyster vermicelli, but it was already quite late, so we finally decided to try the temple street instant noodles.

According to my husband, this temple street instant noodle shop is somewhat famous locally. Indeed, an online search turned up many food reviews. They serve not only instant noodles but also items like toast.

We spotted the familiar glass bottles of chili sauce and black vinegar.

Soup Instant Noodles – NT$60

It really was just instant noodles—the taste was similar to Uni-President’s pork floss flavor, except with added bean sprouts and a half-cooked egg. The portion felt a bit light, leaving us with a slight sense of emptiness after finishing.

Dry Instant Noodles – NT$60

The dry noodle style brings out the flavor of the pork floss even more, though there were still only a few bean sprouts and a half-cooked egg.

The taste was just like instant noodles you’d have at home. At first, I thought there might be other toppings, but I was a little disappointed afterward.

The dry noodles came with a bowl of clear soup.

It’s quite amazing that a shop selling only instant noodles has lasted into the second generation. To be honest, these noodles aren’t particularly special, yet many loyal customers make a special trip here for a late-night bite. I guess taste is subjective, and everyone has their own preferences. If you’re curious about temple street instant noodles, you’ll just have to come and try them yourself. It was getting late, so we had to hurry back to Kaohsiung and didn’t stay longer. Next time, we’ll introduce more Chaozhou delicacies.
