Where are you going to watch fireworks this year? Taipei 101 always delivers an exciting display, and this year — as we approach the centennial of the Republic of China — the 101 fireworks will be even more spectacular than last year. Compared to the previous year’s NT$30 million budget for the fireworks, this year’s budget will be twice as much at NT$60 million, featuring a full 360-degree fireworks show that is sure to leave you mesmerized and glued to the view.
This year’s fireworks display breaks new ground by setting up launch racks around the entire building for a 360-degree spectacle. High-difficulty vertical steel cables were installed extensively along the exterior façade, with a total of 1,800 firing racks set up.
This year’s Taipei 101 fireworks will set five major records: 1. Longest duration and most fireworks ever — previously only 188 seconds, this year it will last 288 seconds, featuring 14 different fireworks programs. Last year there were only 16,000 fireworks, but this year there will be as many as 30,000. 2. The fireworks investment amounts to NT$60 million, with NT$30 million contributed by Taipei 101 and another NT$30 million from corporate sponsors. 3. Full 360-degree construction-rack fireworks on the entire building façade, with high-difficulty installation of numerous vertical steel cables, and a total of 1,800 firing racks. 4. Designed by pyrotechnics master Cai Guo-Qiang, in collaboration with the internationally renowned Grucci family of New York, who have been setting off fireworks for 150 years. 5. Innovative fireworks programs, with fireworks launching as high as 508 meters into the clouds, and incorporating visual imagery concepts such as “Silver Waterfall in Layers” and “Soaring Dragon in Flight.”
Taipei 101 is a famous tourist attraction, drawing visitors non-stop. In 2011 alone, its revenue reached NT$8 billion.
