Many people with late-night hunger cravings would head to their neighborhood 7-Eleven for a quick bite—it was super convenient. But recently, 7-Eleven operators announced that 400 stores will close earlier and no longer operate 24 hours a day.

7-Eleven stated that due to many franchise owners reporting that nighttime customer traffic does not match revenue, they have decided to cease 24-hour operations and will close earlier. Currently, a total of 400 stores have applied for this change. However, there’s no need to worry too much—most of the 24-hour stores are located in areas such as industrial zones and schools where foot traffic is low at night.

Besides 7-Eleven, other convenience store chains such as FamilyMart, Hi-Life, and OK Mart also have stores that close early, mostly concentrated in enclosed business districts and factory building shops. Among them, OK Mart has also introduced smart vending machines to save on labor costs and move toward an “unmanned” operational model.
