Spring in Okinawa is bustling with excitement. Following the romantic scenery of beautiful cherry blossoms and azaleas in full bloom comes the annual highlight that electrifies the streets of Okinawa — the “2011 Okinawa International Asia Music Festival.” It spans numerous indoor and outdoor venues across Naha City and Okinawa City, immersing the entire island in melodious notes, allowing music lovers and those who enjoy the island vibe to revel in this Asian international celebration together.

The “Okinawa International Asia Music Festival musix 2011” is named with the concept of creating “a place where music (music) intersects (cross = x).” The event features 23 indoor and outdoor venues across Naha City, Okinawa City, and Kita Ward, inviting hundreds of domestic and international musicians and bands. With a diverse range of genres including jazz, rock, indie music, and traditional Okinawan folk songs, the festival aims to showcase the richness of music through its vast venues and stellar line-up, letting musical diversity blossom across the island of Okinawa.
The event runs from March 18 to 20. In addition to exciting street performances, indoor venues are mainly located along Kokusai Dori in Naha City, requiring tickets for entry. The second edition of the Okinawa Music Festival provides Asians with a new platform for international music exchange. This year, on the Taiwan side, acts such as Chen Jian-Nian, Ji Xiao-Jun, Hao En Jia Jia, EasyPlay, Life Tree, Hiyaze & Seiyu Band, Pink Guitar Bunny, Woody Woody, and HOTPINK will perform, allowing Taiwan’s indie music scene to connect with the world.
Okinawa, the island of music, has given birth to renowned singers such as Namie Amuro and Rimi Natsukawa.
