An increasing number of lavish, ultra-modern restaurants are emerging, perfectly integrating design with the “Shanghai” vibe to become trendy dining spots where the decor itself is worth admiring while you eat.

The pioneer of China’s first luxury fashion brand, “Shanghai Tang,” was established in Hong Kong in 1994, primarily drawing inspiration from Shanghai’s charm. It now has forty branches globally. In 2010, the world’s first brand-concept Shanghai Tang Café was opened in Xintiandi, serving as an extension of the brand. Its bold use of color and décor leaves a deep impression—you definitely won’t forget it once you’ve been.

Just one street away from the bustling Xintiandi, Shanghai Tang Café is comparatively much quieter. Nestled beside a lush green tree is this stone-built old structure, radiating understated luxury that’s hard to ignore. The restaurant’s menu was designed by international master chef Jereme Leung. Here, you can savor his renowned “modern Chinese cuisine”—Chinese dishes infused with Western flavors, such as Kung Pao Chicken with peanut sauce, Guilin Tofu ice cream, Hawthorn Foie Gras Terrine, Spicy and Numbing Hot Soup, ice cream desserts with dragon fruit, and Hawthorn Pop Rocks Sorbet, all quite unique.

The restaurant is adorned with a wealth of traditional Shanghai furniture and ornaments, showcasing the distinctive colors and taste of “Shanghai Tang.” Silk, embroidery, and lacquered wood all exhibit refined and delicate oriental charm. The attention to detail—from dining chairs and tables to tableware—shows the establishment’s dedication to refinement. Yet, despite the bold, eye-catching modern color palette, there's no sense of clashing styles. Much like the brand image of “Shanghai Tang,” it appeals to both Eastern and Western tastes.
