Michelin Guide Released: 59 New Culinary Options in Hong Kong & Macau

Travelers to Hong Kong and Macau now have even more dining choices, as the renowned Michelin Guide officially launched the *2012 Hong Kong & Macau Michelin Guide* in Hong Kong today. The guide features a total of 281 restaurants and hotels in Hong Kong and 51 in Macau, including 59 newly added establishments (57 from Hong Kong and 2 from Macau), offering food lovers exciting new culinary destinations. Among the top-tier three-star restaurants, Hong Kong’s Cantonese fine-dining restaurant Lung King Heen and Caprice at Four Seasons continue to hold their prestigious positions, while L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon and 8½ Otto e Mezzo – Bombana have been newly elevated to three-star status this year. In Macau, the French restaurant Robuchon a Galera at the Grand Lisboa maintains its two-star ranking.

This year’s guide includes over 70% of selected restaurants offering Chinese cuisine such as Shanghai, Beijing, Sichuan, Hakka, Hangzhou, Cantonese, and Teochew dishes. In Hong Kong, there are 48 one-star restaurants and 10 two-star restaurants. Newly awarded one-star status this year are Ah Yat Harbour View Restaurant, Caprice (International Finance Centre), Lei Garden (Causeway Bay), Mirror, Tin Lung Heen, and Yue. The “Bib Gourmand” selection highlights great value eateries where a three-course meal costs no more than HK$300 (approx. NT$1,200). This year, 59 establishments made the list, with newcomers including Chen Qin Ji Marinated Goose, Show, Ippudo, Kun Kee Bamboo Noodle, La Marmite, Lan Yuan? Pavilion, Miàn Pǔ Jing Chuān Cài, Wang Tai Te Shi, Mei Wei Chu, Mesa 15, Nha Trang (Tsim Sha Tsui), Miàn Zhàn, Shí Jì Chú Fáng, Xin Xian Qing Tang Niu Noodle & Curry Specialist, First Cheung Fun Specialist, Zhú Jiā, Luó Lè, and Xin Dou Ji (Sha Tin).

Among the 12 restaurants listed in Macau, three earned two stars: Zeffirelli, 8½ Restaurant, and Wing Lei. Wing Lei was upgraded from one star to two this year. There are also three one-star restaurants: Tao Yuan Xiao Chu, Lei Garden, and the newly listed Jing Hua Xuan. The “Bib Gourmand” selections include Lao Ji Zhou Mian, Liu Ji Zhou Mian, Xiang Ji Mian Jia, Zhou Mian Zhuang, and “Shí Bā Fāng.” Beloved by locals, Lao Ji Zhou Mian received its first Michelin recommendation this year.
