During the Japanese colonial period, this building served as the Governor's Hot Spring Guesthouse. After Taiwan’s Retrocession, the guesthouse was converted into a coastal defense fortification, and the hot spring water sources were completely blocked off, leading to its eventual abandonment.
In 2002, hot spring operators preserved the Renaissance-style architecture of the Western-style building during its renovation and cleaning, and enlisted skilled artisans to restore the faded and peeling hand-laid tiles, bringing back the historical appearance of the site for the world to see.
The open-air hot spring bath on the rooftop has clear, slightly emerald-green water. It is an acidic sulfur-salt spring, known for its therapeutic effects on inflammation, sterilization, muscle and bone soreness, as well as skin beautification and cleansing.
