Aogu Wetland is situated within the Dongshi Farm, abundant in fish, shrimp, and shellfish. With the growing conservation awareness among community residents in recent years, it has drawn numerous winter migratory birds. In the past two years, black-faced spoonbills have also wintered in the wetland. The Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, has designated Aogu Wetland as an important wildlife habitat. Want to explore this precious ecosystem? Starting December 10, the Chiayi Forest District Office will hold holiday birdwatching and eco-tourism experience activities, where you can visit migratory birds and enjoy local cuisine – all for just NT$300 per person.

The Aogu Wetland Forest Park spans from the Beigang River to the Liujiao Drain, covering an area of approximately 1,458 hectares. The park features diverse geographical landscapes including wetlands, sandbars, fish farms, afforestation areas, and agricultural zones. In the cold winter months, northern migratory birds such as northern pintails, cormorants, and Saunders’s gulls make the wetland vibrant and lively. Coupled with nearby communities, the Port Palace, and Dongshi Fishing Port, which are rich in cultural and local fishing village industry characteristics, it’s a great place to experience rural and fishing village life.

The birdwatching and eco-tourism events organized by the Chiayi Forest District Office invite local community mothers to prepare eco-conscious local meals and guide visitors deep into Aogu Wetland to meet the migratory birds from afar. The fee is only NT$300 per person (including transportation, guide fees, lunch, and accident insurance), with a total of 7 sessions: December 10, December 24, January 7, February 4, February 11, February 18, and February 25.
