To celebrate the “125th Anniversary of the Railway Festival” and the “Sister Locomotive Bond between CK124 Steam Locomotive and Japan’s JR Hokkaido C11 Winter Moorland,” on June 8 (Friday), the TRA will use the CK124 steam locomotive to pull three business-class carriages and a dining car, offering the public a chance to experience the beauty of Neiwan. This is also the first time that the TRA’s business-class carriages have appeared on the Neiwan Line. The journey starts in Hsinchu and ends in Neiwan, with a ticket price of NT$899. Online ticket sales begin at 9 a.m. on May 30.

The “Midsummer Taiwan No. – Neiwan Journey” departs from Hsinchu at 10:09 a.m., stops at Zhudong Station for 60 minutes, where passengers can visit the “Hsiao Jui-Sung Art Park” or the nearby “Zhudong Heart” area; they can also take photos at Jiuzan Station of the historically significant “semaphore signal,” one of the most iconic in railway culture; admire the uniquely styled red-brick and red-tile Hsinghsin Station old station building. The train stays around two hours at Neiwan Station, giving passengers time to explore Neiwan Old Street, Neiwan Theater, and the studio of artist Liu Hsing-chin, among other Hakka cultural landmarks. The entire trip is expected to return to Hsinchu by 3:15 p.m.

Tickets for this journey are available only via online computer booking—no phone reservations, no internet payment systems, no reserved-seat automatic ticket machines, and no ticket pick-up at post offices or convenience stores.
