Summer is the liveliest season in Penghu, and flying is the preferred mode of transport for most visitors. To ease the difficulty of securing plane tickets during the peak travel season and promote diverse transportation options to Penghu, the administration has introduced the “Take a Ferry to Penghu. Share Your Photo for a Souvenir” campaign. Starting today (the 20th), passengers who take the Taiwan-Fuqiun Ferry and take a photo with the ship’s mascot cutout, or share their ferry experience on the administration’s Facebook page, will receive a souvenir. Additionally, those who post photos of the Taiwan-Penghu Ferry (with usage rights) on the administration’s Facebook will also get a souvenir.

In the past, limited flight schedules and airport constraints meant that sea transport was the main link between Taiwan and Penghu. From the early “Penghu Ferry,” to the “Taiwan-Penghu Ferry” of the 1950s–60s, to today’s “Taiwan-Fuqiun Ferry,” the large passenger ships connecting Taiwan and Penghu have evolved through three generations. Nowadays, flights have become the top choice for many tourists traveling to the “Island of Chrysanthemums,” leading to high demand and limited ticket availability during the peak season. To address this issue, the scenic area administration has partnered with the Taiwan-Fuqiun Ferry to launch the “Blue Heart of Penghu” series of events this year.

The “Take a Ferry to Penghu. Share Your Photo for a Souvenir” event runs from the 20th to September 30th. Passengers who take the Taiwan-Fuqiun Ferry or have photos related to the Taiwan-Penghu Ferry can join the administration’s Facebook fan page. By posting either a photo taken with the ship’s mascot cutout or a 200-word reflection on your ferry ride, you’ll receive a deck of playing cards or a notepad. Posting photos of the Taiwan-Penghu Ferry (with usage rights) will also earn you a souvenir.
Additionally, the “Blue Heart of Penghu” creative activity submission for unique Taiwan-Fuqiun Ferry experiences is ongoing. Before August 31 and September 30 respectively, travelers who take the ferry and come up with creative play ideas—submitting photo-text suggestions via the official website—or create microfilms or written content about lesser-known travel themes in Penghu may win prizes ranging from NT$10,000 to NT$50,000. For more details, visit the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration website: www.penghu-nsa.gov.tw/user/main.aspx.
