Cathay Pacific announced that due to the impact of the strong typhoon Vicente hitting Hong Kong, which led to the cancellation of 56 Cathay Pacific flights and the diversion of 16 flights to other regions, the resulting chain reactions and passenger volume issues have meant that it will still take time for Cathay Pacific’s flight services and schedules to return to normal. It is expected that flight operations will only stabilize in a few days’ time. Cathay Pacific advises passengers who were originally scheduled to depart between today (25th) and the 29th to consider cancelling or postponing their trips. The airline will waive fees for rebooking, changing departure dates, cancellations, and refunds. These measures apply to all Cathay Pacific tickets (regardless of fare class) issued on or before 24 July and for departures today through the 29th.

Cathay Pacific’s Managing Director, John Slosar, said: “Although the strong typhoon has moved away, the severe weather continues, with Hong Kong and nearby areas frequently experiencing heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms. To ensure the safe take-off and landing of flights, extra time is being allocated when scheduling departures and arrivals. In addition, as Hong Kong Airport is still affected by lightning, personnel working on the apron are required to temporarily leave their positions during lightning for safety reasons. As a result, services over the next few days will still be affected even after the strong typhoon has passed.”
Cathay Pacific expects that multiple flights will still be delayed before the end of this weekend, and some flights may need to be cancelled in order to reposition aircraft and crew to where they are needed. In addition, luggage delivery services may also be delayed. Since flight operations remain affected, passengers are advised to check the latest flight information on the Cathay Pacific website www.cathaypacific.com.tw before going to the airport.
