On January 1, 2013 (2013 being read as “love you for a lifetime”), the Eastern Coastal National Scenic Area Administration hosted the “2013 (Love You for a Lifetime) · Welcome the Happy Sunrise at Sanxiantai on the East Coast” event. With happiness as the theme, the site featured a romantic LED-lit Starlight Boulevard. By walking through this light corridor, visitors could reach the pebble beach to await the sunrise. This year, a special cross-year “2013–2014 Love You (You) for a Lifetime and a Lifetime Promise” sunrise event was planned. Couples who became engaged (13, representing “a lifetime”) at Sanxiantai Lighthouse in 2013 and took a photo there on New Year’s Day would have a Q-version character portrait drawn for them. Those who returned in 2014 to attend the New Year’s Day sunrise event could then experience an Amis wedding “lifetime promise” (14, representing “a lifetime vow”) for free. After the wedding experience, they would be given the Q-version portrait as a symbol of their lifelong bond. Whether couples, friends, or family members, any group of two could join, with 130 spots available. Reservations were required by phone before December 21.

On New Year’s Day, amidst the cold and dark early morning, a fire dance performance was arranged. The flames were magnificent and dazzling, delivering a stunning visual and auditory experience. Then, the first ray of sunlight was welcomed to the sound of PAW PAW drum music from Pisirian on Sanxiantai. The Eastern Coastal National Scenic Area Administration also set up a Dawn Market, selling local delicacies, specialties, and hot food to help visitors recharge at any time. There was also a series of happiness-themed activities: donate two receipts to exchange for a limited-edition postcard that reads “I Love You for a Lifetime at Sanxiantai,” where you can write a New Year’s blessing to loved ones far away. The administration will mail this happiness from Sanxiantai for free. Additionally, those who filled out information to join the travel enthusiast recruitment event could receive an LED pen as a sunrise gift (limited to 1,000 pieces).
Lin Weiling, deputy director of the Eastern Coastal National Scenic Area Administration, stated that to promote the East Coast throughout the year, a special travel enthusiast recruitment event had been planned. It was hoped that through route-based point collection, participants could gain deeper exposure to the East Coast’s unique natural landscapes and tribal characteristics. This year’s third edition of the event added more routes, including uploading travel videos, photos, and text, as well as tribal experience activities and challenge missions. Among the more unique routes was visiting the lighthouse at Sanxiantai, where you could enjoy a 270-degree view of the ocean, explore the lighthouse, experience the lighthouse experience activity, and take on task challenges along the route, among others. Currently, as long as you participate in any of the 22 routes planned by the administration before the end of November 2012, take photos at the designated locations according to the registration or instructions, and upload them to the event’s official website, you will earn one point. At the end of the event, the top 100 participants with the most points will receive a reward of NT$6,000.
