Long-distance travel often leads to jet lag because the human body secretes sleep hormones based on routine and sunlight intensity to adjust the biological clock. Sudden, drastic changes can disrupt this internal clock; the following eight tips will help prevent jet lag from ruining your trip.

1.Adjust Your Sleep Before the Trip
You can start gradually adjusting your biological clock to match the destination’s time zone before departure, which helps you adapt to the time difference more quickly.
2.Pre-Select Your Seat
Choosing your seat in advance is very important if you want to sleep comfortably. If seats are assigned randomly, you might end up in a noisy or bumpy area. By pre-selecting, you can choose a seat in the front rows, which not only experience less turbulence during the flight but are also farther from the engines, resulting in minimal disturbance.

3.Choose a Flight Arriving in the Evening
Opting for a flight that arrives in the evening allows you to enjoy dinner upon arrival or do some light stretching, and you can go to bed before 10 PM to quickly adjust to the local schedule.
4.Set Your Watch to the Local Time
Setting your watch to the destination’s time helps subconsciously shift your biological clock through visual cues, reducing the effects of jet lag.

5.Prepare Personal Sleep Aids
To sleep well in an unfamiliar place, consider bringing personal sleep aids such as an eye mask, earplugs, a pillow, or even a personal travel pillow. Anything that helps create a familiar and comfortable environment is worth trying.
6.Sleeping Time on the Plane Is Limited
Many people have the habit of sleeping as soon as they board the plane, but this can negatively affect your sleep after arriving. Try to distract yourself by reading a novel or watching a movie. If you really need to sleep, try not to sleep for too long.

7.Avoid Overeating and Drinking
Upon arrival, excitement may lead you to indulge in local delicacies, but overeating can affect your sleep quality at night. It’s best to show some restraint.
8.Take a Hot Bath Before Bed
After arriving at your destination, try taking a hot bath before bed to help relax your body and mind. You can also add some essential oils to the bath to aid sleep.
