As New Year's Eve approaches, fireworks displays across Taiwan are being intensively planned. This year’s Taipei 101 New Year’s Eve fireworks performance, sponsored by direct selling company Nu Skin, will last 218 seconds—extended from last year’s 188 seconds, an increase of 30 seconds. This is also the second longest fireworks show in the history of the Taipei 101 New Year’s Eve event since its inception in 2004.

This year’s Taipei 101 fireworks will once again be designed by the internationally renowned French team “Group F,” which received high praise last year. As the show coincides with the 10th anniversary of Taipei 101, the fireworks content will be themed around the number “ten.” The 218-second show is the second longest to date, following the centennial celebration.
On December 31, 2004, the Taipei 101 office tower was officially completed. To announce to the world that the tallest building was in Taipei, fireworks were launched at the first second of 2005 to celebrate the New Year. Since then, the annual fireworks show has attracted hundreds of thousands of spectators. During the centennial celebration, the display was even extended to Dajia Riverside Park, with a total of 30,000 fireworks launched over 288 seconds—the longest in history. In 2012, the year of the 101st Republic of China and also the name “101” of the Taipei 101 building, the fireworks show was planned for 202 seconds, featuring a total of 30,000 fireworks with more than 148 fireworks launched per second, making it the most densely packed show in the history of Taipei 101 fireworks.
