The much-troubled yellow duck in Keelung recently suffered an unexpected burst, leaving its limp rubber skin floating in Ocean Plaza. Its original plan to celebrate New Year’s Eve with duck fans was shattered on the final day of 2013, leaving countless fans who had hoped to experience “1314” with the duck utterly stunned.

Having endured the dirty duck incident, the yellow duck in Keelung had finally been cleaned not long ago, and was originally expected to greet the New Year’s Eve in a fresh and clean state with its fans. However, it unexpectedly burst at noon today. The exact cause of the rupture is still pending clarification from the organizers. This also means that the yellow duck, which was initially scheduled to frolic in Keelung’s waters for 50 days, will have to “take the early exit” after just 11 days.
Zhao Chenyu, an eyewitness at the scene, said that the weather had improved today, and there were quite a few visitors around Ocean Plaza. At the moment the duck burst, everyone felt as if they were dreaming—how could the duck suddenly go flat?

As for the Kaohsiung yellow duck, which showed solidarity during the Taoyuan duck burst incident, whether it will step in again to substitute for Keelung remains to be decided after discussions and evaluation between the Keelung organizers and the Kaohsiung City Government.
