This year’s Taipei New Year’s Eve celebration will not only feature live connections with Japan’s Kohaku Uta Gassen and a concert by Masaharu Fukuyama, but the famous fireworks display will also have a unique twist—Spider-Man will take on the crucial role of igniting the fireworks from Taipei City Hall, and the event will be livestreamed online, allowing global audiences to ring in the brand-new 2014 together.

The 4-meter-tall, 350-kilogram Spider-Man statue will be placed on a 12-meter-high themed pedestal, echoing the stage of the New Year’s Eve celebration and appearing as if it is guarding the crowd on-site, exuding great presence. This time, Spider-Man has also been given the important task of starting the 101 New Year’s Eve fireworks. After the countdown reaches zero, a laser beam will shoot from his hand toward the Taipei 101 skyscraper to ignite the fireworks.
In addition, Spider-Man will also appear at the New Year’s Eve event in New York’s Times Square, participating in the iconic crystal ball drop ceremony. All the giant screens in Times Square will exclusively premiere exciting clips of Spider-Man battling Electro in Times Square ahead of everyone else, giving viewers an early sneak peek.
