Hong Kong
The “New Year. New World. Hong Kong Countdown 2014,” organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board and sponsored by New World Development Company Limited, will take place on the evening of December 31 at Victoria Harbour and various buildings across Hong Kong Island. Hong Kong was ranked No. 1 among CNN’s “Top 10 Unique New Year’s Celebrations Around the World” last year. This year’s countdown will feature many new elements, with an even larger scale than previous years. Taipei
The Taipei 101 fireworks show, following the 2013 display, will once again be designed by the internationally renowned French fireworks team Groupe F. Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of Taipei 101’s completion, this year’s fireworks performance has been extended from 188 seconds to 218 seconds, with 24,000 fireworks—2,000 more than last year. To welcome the upcoming Year of the Horse in the lunar calendar, the fireworks will feature gold as the main color, offering a more diverse and vibrant palette than ever before. Edinburgh
Edinburgh hosts the three-day “Hogmanay” New Year’s celebration every December 31. Hogmanay, meaning the last day of the year in Scots, includes events such as torchlight processions, live band performances, outdoor movie screenings, lively carnivals, fun triathlon and dog sledding competitions.
