Mó Shíjiān Coffee (Grind Time Coffee)

Created by two men in their seventies, Mó Shíjiān Coffee is a space transformed from a 35-year-old building, combining urban flair with vintage charm. The owners’ top recommendations are their handmade “Vienna” and “Irish” coffees. There’s also a visually enticing honey pancake, best paired with apple milk tea for the perfect afternoon tea set—these pastries were specially learned by the owners before opening the shop, showing great dedication.

Ichigyou Issho Kobe Waffles

Located on Gōngyì Road, Ichigyou Issho Kobe Waffles may not boast a flashy storefront, but its dignified brick-red sign bears its founding philosophy: “Ichigyou Issho,” meaning “one time, one meeting”—a reflection of treasuring every encounter in life. The Japanese couple who run the shop fell in love with Kobe waffles during their studies in Japan, which sparked their connection to these treats. In the early days, they faced challenges due to the meticulous standards of Japanese craftsmanship, but they were determined to perfect the authentic taste. They even custom-built a machine for making Kobe waffles and invited a Japanese master to teach the traditional methods, ensuring customers enjoy the most genuine flavor. The shop offers popular flavors such as original butter, red bean fresh milk, matcha red bean, caramel, dark chocolate, and raspberry, along with “Good Morning” waffles that can be spread with jam and cream or layered with fresh fruits like a sandwich—perfect for breakfast. These uniquely flavored Kobe waffles also make excellent gifts.

Sunrise 'Tǔ Dì' (Sunrise Earth)

This chain bakery, famous for its Taiwanese pineapple cakes and cheesecakes, may operate multiple locations, but only four can be found in Taichung: Tǔ Dì (Earth), Lǚrén (Traveler), Tǔ Fèng (Earth Phoenix), and Xiūdào Yuàn (Monastery). The brand aims to establish roots in Taichung, crafting the tastiest and healthiest baked goods for people across Taiwan to enjoy. The secret to the deliciousness of Sunrise cheesecake lies in its simple recipe: using only 85% cream cheese, a small amount of eggs, and sugar. This minimalistic approach ensures a rich, creamy taste. Without flour, butter, or pie crust, the resulting pure cheesecake has a dense, velvety texture that becomes more aromatic with each bite. It’s also lower in calories compared to typical cheesecakes. Sunrise also offers Taiwanese pineapple cakes and nougat, with the latter coming in various flavors—Gold Medal Coffee, Salty Legend, Coffee, and Original Sunrise. Among them, Salty Legend is a uniquely savory nougat enhanced with salt to elevate the sweetness, making the milk flavor even more distinctive the more you chew.
