Although 2014 has arrived, the "New Taipei City Christmas Town," which opened at the end of last year, will continue to spread festive cheer. The main Christmas tree lights will stay on until February 14, the Lantern Festival (the 15th day of the first lunar month). Not only will the hourly Christmas tree light show continue as usual, but the surrounding sea of lights will also keep shining, illuminating everyone’s sparkling New Year.

Since its grand opening on November 22, 2013, the New Taipei City Christmas Town has attracted millions of visitors with its beautiful decorations, dazzling light displays, and a series of events including over ten concerts, musical performances, street parades, and strolls. Although the originally planned 45-day event is about to conclude, many members of the public have called in, expressing that they wished it could continue. In response, the event organizer, the New Taipei City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau, has decided to extend the light shows until February 14.

During this period, aside from a three-day suspension of the main Christmas tree light show from New Year's Eve to the second day of the Lunar New Year, the hourly shows will continue daily from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Santa Claus and the Flying Bear will also take a short break from January 13 to 27 to get new outfits, and are expected to return on January 28 with a fresh look to celebrate the Lunar New Year with everyone, all the way until the radiant Lantern Festival.
To coincide with the extended lighting of the Christmas tree, the "Bear Bear I GOT U" event on the New Taipei Travel Facebook fan page has also been extended to January 12. Starting now, anyone who takes a photo of a bear pattern on the New Taipei Christmas tree, uploads it to the event page, and joins the New Taipei Travel fan page will have a chance to win a pair of “7T” Christmas bears. A total of 200 adorable bear pairs will be given away to fans.
