The annual project of constructing Taiwan’s tallest 36-meter Christmas tree at New Taipei City Civic Square has begun. Last year, the joyful New Taipei City Christmas Town attracted over 2.5 million visitors. On October 30, the launch press conference was held. The deputy mayor turned the crank to open the gates of Christmas Town, where the Children’s Theater Troupe and kindergarten kids dressed as snowmen and reindeer appeared together, shouting “Merry Christmas!” in Finnish. Amidst their cheerful chatter,it was announced that the 51-day series of events will officially begin after the lighting ceremony on November 15th.

This year’s Christmas Town will remain open for 51 consecutive days, keeping the festive spirit alive until January 4, 2015.It sets new records for the longest duration of shows in Christmas Town history, the densest LED lighting, the longest total length of lights, and the tallest Christmas tree. It also features macaron-colored lights using a nationally exclusive technology for the first time, breaking away from the traditional red, yellow, blue, and green palette to offer visitors a fresh visual experience.

Since opening in 2011, the New Taipei City Christmas Town has now entered its fourth year. It has not only become one of the city’s most iconic festive events but has also been voted by netizens as the most romantic Christmas attraction in Taiwan. Organized by the New Taipei City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau, the beautiful sea of lights covers a vast area of 146,400 square meters. This year, nearly 18 LED lights were placed per square meter on average, creating a starry, romantic ambiance. The total length of the lights even reaches 320,000 meters, equivalent to 660 Taipei 101 towers.

The ever-evolving Christmas tree main light show is also a major highlight. In addition to the existing sound and light effects, narration and real-life simulation have been added for the first time, creating a theatrical experience. Teddy bears circle around the Christmas tree, the whistle sounds, and white smoke pours from the chimney of the Christmas Express mini-house on Civic Square. The ambient lights along the first and second-floor corridors also shimmer in sync with the music of the main show, immersing every audience member in the magical atmosphere.
