To commemorate World War I, the UK launched a plan from the summer of 2014 to November 11 to plant 888,246 poppies at the Tower of London—each flower representing a fallen soldier. By November 1, the spectacular sea of flowers had attracted over 4 million visitors who came to pay their respects to the fallen.

The commemorative event themed “Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red” was jointly planned by British ceramic artist Paul Cummins and stage designer Tom Piper. Over three months, they installed blood-red ceramic poppies around the historic Tower of London, transforming casualty figures from mere numbers into a tangible sight for every visitor. The crimson blooms symbolize the ruthless sacrifices of war and the flowing blood, while each flower stands as the highest tribute and remembrance to every fallen soldier.
