Recently, news about Taiwanese tourists canceling their orders at a Japanese youth hostel and abandoning their car on Ishigaki Island went viral online, prompting many netizens to reflect on whether they’ve ever done something similar or had similar experiences that might have caused inconvenience to others. Sometimes due to differences in foreign cultures and languages, misunderstandings and barriers can arise unintentionally. But some discourteous behaviors are universally frowned upon. An overseas website surveyed 10 disrespectful behaviors on airplanes—let’s see if we’ve ever done any of them.

Although adjusting your seat to sit more comfortably on a plane is unavoidable, sometimes excessive reclining may need to take into account the passengers behind you. For instance, reclining too much during meal times can also cause inconvenience to those behind you. It’s recommended to avoid reclining your backrest unless you’re taking a short nap, and remember to return the backrest to its original position after landing.

On long flights, some passengers may choose to take off their shoes to let their tired feet breathe and feel more comfortable, but this could be torture for those nearby. Scientific research shows that most people with smelly feet are often unaware of it. Aside from changing into clean socks and cleaning your shoes, think twice before taking off your shoes next time. Also, try to avoid eating garlic or other strong-smelling foods before boarding, or you might unknowingly become the most unwelcome person in the cabin.

Most people can empathize with the cries of babies, but if the child is already in elementary school and still making endless loud noises, especially for passengers who need rest on long flights, it can be hard to tolerate.

Imagine you’re sleeping in your seat when suddenly someone pulls forcefully from behind—you might even get your hair yanked. In that case, the annoyance of standing up by holding onto the seat in front of you might seem more justified.
● Speaking Loudly
It’s natural to feel excited when traveling abroad, but most people just want to rest well on the plane. Speaking loudly is almost a form of harassment, especially when the conversation carries over and becomes doubly annoying.
