When it comes to gaming laptops, most people are familiar with them, often thinking of their high-end configurations that deliver an amazing gaming experience. But when it comes to barebones systems, many might not be as familiar. Today, we’ll introduce to you one of the best barebones systems for gaming laptops, as well as the gaming laptops that use this particular barebones system.
Some beginners might not quite understand what a barebones system is — it’s commonly referred to as a chassis or barebone chassis.

The gaming laptop we’re introducing today is based on the Clevo W650 series barebone chassis, which can be said to offer the best cost-performance ratio among mid-to-low-end gaming laptop configurations. The Shinelon Destroyer DC series and DD series both use this barebone chassis. This system uses a desktop CPU, which means the barebones system is upgradeable — and that’s the biggest highlight of this chassis. It also features dual fans and three copper heat pipes, which can generally handle the heat as long as the CPU power consumption isn’t extremely high. For example, the two product lines from Shinelon use desktop CPUs such as the G4600 and i5-7400. For higher-end CPUs like the i7-7700, I wouldn’t recommend it, as the heat is too much and the three copper pipes might struggle to keep up. Personally, I think for home use, gaming, studying, or office work, the i5-7400 is more than sufficient — anything higher is a bit overkill. I use this setup for games like LOL and PUBG, as well as for modeling (UG), rendering (KeyShot), video editing (ARPE), Photoshop, and Illustrator, and it handles all these applications smoothly for normal use.
Although the graphics card is not removable, Shinelon offers a fairly comprehensive selection in its configurations. Whether it’s the GTX 960M from the 900 series, the GTX 1050, or even the GTX 1050 Ti from the 1000 series, there are no issues.

This barebones system also has relatively good upgrade potential, featuring two RAM slots, one SATA 3.0 hard drive bay, and two M.2 interfaces for solid-state drives. As a result, Shinelon offers different configurations based on this barebones system, allowing customers to purchase the setup that suits their needs.

Additionally, the screen on this model has now been upgraded to an IPS panel, which is something gamers definitely need. Whether it’s viewing angles or color accuracy, it’s incomparable to a regular TN panel.
Many people focus solely on the specs but often overlook the possibilities for upgrades and customization. By upgrades and customization, I simply mean upgrading the GPU, CPU, and system, as well as adding more RAM, SSDs, or HDDs.
In fact, the lifespan of a laptop can be quite long, as long as you take good care of it, it can stay with you for years to come.
