Jimmy Liao Brings Picture Book Station Fairy Tale Style to Niigata, Japan

Besides the Jimmy Liao train station not only being seen in Yilan, now Jimmy Liao is making his way to Japan. In late July this year, he traveled to Japan to participate in the world’s largest international outdoor art festival — the “Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale,” where he created a cute picture book-style fairy tale train station to interact with tourists from all over the world.

Since 2008, Jimmy Liao has held multiple large-scale touring exhibitions across Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, accumulating extensive experience in planning and installing public art pieces. These include the widely acclaimed Yilan Jimmy Liao Cultural Corridor, the TSMC Jimmy Liao Park at Southern Taiwan Science Park, the Hsin Yi Properties Moon Bus... and more. Through stories, aesthetics, humanities, and local life elements, these works engage with the overall environment and space, winning the love of fans and also invigorating local areas and urban development.

Japan’s Niigata “Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale” has been held every three years since 2000. Using farmland as a stage and art as a bridge, it connects people and nature, explores the inheritance and development of regional culture, and revitalizes areas that have been aging and declining. With artworks spread across an area of 760 square kilometers and more than 200 villages serving as signposts, it leads travelers to enjoy a natural art feast, attracting over 1.5 million visitors. The art triennale has successfully promoted the integration of agriculture, art, culture, and tourism, and inspired Jimmy Liao’s collaboration with the Bisiryan Tribe in Taitung in 2013.
