Summer evenings can be tricky when you’re not sure where to go. Why not head to a jazz concert? The annual Taipei Jazz Festival unfolds over three days starting July 17 at Da’an Forest Park, inviting musical ensembles from around the globe to present diverse music styles and cultural vibes. With acts taking turns on stage, everyone is welcome to come together in the park, enjoy the evening breeze, sway to the rhythm, and make the most of a lovely weekend.

Since its debut in 2007, the Taipei Jazz Festival held every mid-July has been highly anticipated by locals and jazz enthusiasts alike. This year’s event features a special lineup of renowned domestic and international jazz artists, as well as emerging talents performing in relay. International acts hail from countries including Italy, Honduras, the United States, France, and more. Among them, Honduras’ Hibriduz band is known for infusing performances with infectious energy through pop and Latin styles, drawing audiences into the music. A major highlight is the Taiwan debut of American jazz master Andy Jaffe, a former teacher of artist Wang Leehom. Twelve musicians were selected from 40 applicants across Taiwan to form two groups — the “Taiwan Youth Elite Ensemble” — making their festival debut as well. This year’s Taipei Jazz Festival aims to present the multifaceted, multi-temporal richness of jazz and its related culture, collectively delivering a globally resonant “jazz rhythm” and treating audiences to a delightful musical feast.
