Travelers planning to visit Tainan recently, take note Up！ The dengue fever outbreak in Tainan City has occurred in multiple waves. As of August 26 this year, there have been a total of 2,381 dengue fever cases in Tainan City, with 4 deaths reported. In addition, 5 confirmed dengue fever cases in New Taipei City and 1 in Keelung City involved individuals who had traveled to Tainan.

According to related reports, the dengue fever outbreak has affected travelers’ willingness to visit Tainan. Some hotels in Tainan City have seen cancellations, and many have received inquiry calls. Considering the outbreak, some guests even canceled bookings, impacting the tourism industry in Tainan.

Dengue fever is primarily prevalent in regions south of the Tropic of Cancer, with Southeast Asia also being a major epidemic area. It is transmitted through the bites of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. Currently, the most commonly observed symptoms are still fever, but some gastrointestinal symptoms have also been reported. The mortality rate of dengue fever is only 2% to 3%, with severe cases mainly occurring in the elderly or those with pre-existing serious illnesses. Most healthy individuals usually recover smoothly, so there is no need for excessive worry — the public should not panic unduly.
Travelers visiting Tainan in the near future are advised to wear light-colored long-sleeved clothing and carry mosquito repellent to guard against mosquito bites. Seek medical attention immediately if any related symptoms appear.
