A Kyoto Moment in Tainan – Stay in a Traditional Japanese House and Immerse Yourself in Elegance

Strolling through the streets of Tainan, one is often drawn to its alleys and historic homes. The city holds countless remnants from the Japanese colonial period, all waiting to be read and admired. Tucked away in an alley on Zhongxiao Street in Tainan City, the “ひさと庵 久都。和宅” homestay is close to the bustling Haian Road and Shentung Street, as well as the filming location of the movie "The Thousand-Year-Old Shop." The surrounding area still retains many old houses dating back to the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, creating a time-travel portal that instantly transports visitors into the serene and traditional atmosphere of old Japan.

“ひさと庵 久都。和宅” is a renovated two-story house with over 50–60 years of history. There is one room each on the first and second floors. It is said that the building was once a dormitory for a nearby factory. Although the rooms are only about 9 pyeong (approximately 30 square meters) in size, they fully reflect traditional Japanese aesthetics. The scent of tatami mats and the carefully arranged tea sets make one feel as though they have stepped into the home of a Kyoto family.

In addition to the Japanese-style bedroom, the bathroom also maintains a consistent traditional Japanese aesthetic. Upon entering, you’re greeted by the aroma of Hinoki wood barrels, while the walls lined with Hinoki and other cypresses emit a subtle fragrance that soothes both body and mind. Furthermore, opening the bathroom window reveals the courtyard, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful garden view while soaking in the bath — a truly relaxing experience.
