Those who follow market trends may have already noticed that Japan’s well-known AV, book, and game rental and retail company TSUTAYA has teamed up with Ya Yee Audio Video, and it has also been reported recently that the Tsutaya-operated Tsutaya Books is planning to open stores in Taiwan.

Tsutaya Books first gained attention from Taiwanese travelers when it opened in Daikanyama in the winter of 2011. This large-scale, multi-concept bookstore combines books, movies, music, and other lifestyle themes favored by young people. Since its opening, it has not only become a highlight in Daikanyama but also attracted a large number of domestic and international visitors, and was selected as one of the world’s 20 most beautiful bookstores.
The news of Tsutaya Books opening a branch in Taiwan suggests it may set up shop at the Taipei Uni-President Department Store in Xinyi District, potentially rivaling the Eslite Bookstore in the area and bringing new vibrancy to Xinyi’s cultural and creative landscape. Meanwhile, Hsinchu Mayor Lin Chih-chien has also reportedly been actively trying to bring Tsutaya Books to the “Hsinchu Prefectural Library,” injecting new energy into the historic site and the city. In Taiwan, Tsutaya Books is recruiting under the name “Taiwan Tiantian Card Marketing Co., Ltd.”, and its Taipei launch is expected to become a new cultural and leisure destination in the city.
