The "Hans Christian Andersen Illustration Award" was established by UNESCO’s IBBY in 1966. Each year, member countries worldwide nominate outstanding domestic illustrators, and after a rigorous selection process, the award is given to illustrators who have made significant and unique contributions to children’s picture book education, recognizing their lifetime achievements. In 2016, it celebrated the 50th anniversary of the award being presented independently, and Taiwan hosted the global premiere of the exhibition — an event of great commemorative significance. We invite everyone to share in the joy and honor.

Currently, the Hans Christian Andersen Award exhibitions are typically presented as solo shows of the laureates. Most of these illustrators have never had an exhibition before. This [Highest Honor, Little Nobel Prize – The 50th Anniversary Exhibition of the International Hans Christian Andersen Illustration Award] will be the first large-scale illustration exhibition to gather all the international Hans Christian Andersen Award laureates. It is expected to showcase approximately 300 illustrated works by 25 past winners from 1966 to 2015. These include classic pieces by well-known artists such as Lisbeth Zwerger, Květa Pacovská, and Anthony Browne. The exhibition will also feature masterpieces by acclaimed figures like Mitsumasa Anno, known as the "Escher of Japan," Maurice Sendak, hailed as the "Picasso of children's books," and Tomi Ungerer, a giant in the world of children’s picture book creation. It offers a complete showcase for Taiwanese audiences, both young and old, who love illustration.
