Located in Caotun, Nantou, the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute has, in recent years, aimed to promote the modernization and creative development of Taiwan’s crafts industry as well as the aesthetic appreciation of craft culture. It hosts various exhibitions and competitions, organized respectively by the Craft Culture Hall, the Craft Design Hall, the Lifestyle Crafts Hall, and the Local Crafts Hall. Among these, there are also eight craft workshops where craft enthusiasts can interact and participate, such as the Metalworking Workshop, the Dyeing and Weaving Workshop, the Pottery Workshop... and more. The Craft Culture Hall was designed by renowned artist Yang Yuyu and opened in 1977 (the 66th year of the Republic of China). It is the most iconic building in the Taiwan Craft Culture Park. It regularly curates special exhibitions on contemporary craft art and culture, with themes including Taiwan’s diverse craft heritage, contemporary craft innovation, and the development of the craft industry. It serves as a platform for the public to learn about, appreciate, and experience craft culture.

The Craft Information Hall features a craft product exhibition and sales area, a craft book reading area, an international conference hall, and a 3D cinema. Combining local craft traditions and cultural characteristics, and utilizing digital equipment and media platforms, it conveys the unique charm and style of Taiwan’s crafts without limits. In addition, the Lifestyle Crafts Hall includes the Yihé Private Dining Restaurant, a craft creation experience workshop, a toy-making workshop, and a Happy Forest Children’s Craft Experience Area.

The “Local Crafts” Hall is designed as a venue to promote Taiwan’s indigenous local crafts. The hall includes various service areas such as spaces for craft groups to participate in learning and operations, craft experience and learning programs, promotion of local innovative crafts, and international exchange exhibitions and performances.
