2019 Taoyuan Lantern Festival is here Up！This year’s theme isn’t “Year of the Pig” but instead revolves around “fairy tales,” featuring four magical fairy tale-themed lantern zones. The Taoyuan Airport MRT has even been recreated as a lantern and floats through the air in a loop, transforming Taoyuan into a magical fairy tale city！

The “2019 Taoyuan Lantern Festival – A Journey Along the Stream to Peach Blossom Spring, a Magical Fairy Tale City” officially opened on February 12. The four lantern zones include the Sanmin Lantern Zone, Guishan Lantern Zone, Luzhu Lantern Zone, and Shuibiantou Lantern Zone, featuring a total of 49 unique lantern sets. Each lantern zone also boasts incredibly dreamy riverside lantern displays – perfect for photos！

The four lantern zones are themed around the fairy tales “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” “Aladdin and the Magic Lamp,” “The Nutcracker,” and “Alice in Wonderland.” All the lanterns also incorporate elements of the Year of the Pig, showcasing the festive cheer and fun of the pig year.

The main lantern area of the 2019 Taoyuan Lantern Festival is located in the Sanmin Lantern Zone, where the main lantern, “The Taoyuan Magician,” showcases local landmarks such as the Taoyuan Public Library Headquarters, the Taoyuan MRT, and the Nanxi Impression Bridge through the art of lantern-making. Most notably, the Taoyuan MRT train on the lantern actually moves along its tracks, creating a scene that feels like a fairy tale world.
