Pingtung County’s Gaoshu Township is famed for its pineapple production. Recently, the pineapple fields along Section Three of the Mountain Highway have been topped with colorful "hats." The Maolin National Scenic Area Administration got creative to protect the pineapples from the sun, adorning them with vibrant multicolored caps, transforming the once-monotonous fields into dazzling painted pineapple farms. From above, you can also spot a bright yellow round smiling face and the purple butterfly pattern of the scenic area administration, attracting many visitors to stop and admire or take photos. Driving along County Highway 185, Section Three of the Mountain Highway, the colorful fields look from afar like a vibrant sea of flowers, not only shielding the pineapples from the sun but also creating a stunning visual spectacle.

Between March and May each year when pineapples ripen, the climate is dry with little rain and strong sunlight. Exposed to the sun, the fruits can easily get sunburned due to high temperatures. To prevent this, farmers usually cover the fruits with caps. This year, the Maolin National Scenic Area Administration collaborated with fruit farmers from Yinshe Farm to create Taiwan’s one-of-a-kind rainbow-colored caps, bringing more vibrancy to the pineapple fields. The endless stretches of pineapple fields are the result of Yinshe Farm’s owner insisting on the most traditional pineapple cultivation methods—avoiding human interference in the growth cycle—using manual seedling selection, planting, watering, and weeding, without growth accelerators, to offer customers the most natural pineapples.

By following natural farming principles to grow premium pineapples, both color and taste reach top quality. The fruits are sweet and fragrant, with soft, juicy, and luscious flesh that doesn’t stick to the teeth after eating. Yinshe Farm has been managed up to the third generation. Master’s graduate Hong Mingcong, unable to bear seeing his grandfather’s pineapple fields go unattended, resolutely quit his job to return home and grow pineapples. Upholding his grandfather’s spirit, he insists on traditional cultivation methods, applying his education to production scheduling and plant cultivation, growing pineapples with rich aroma and top quality. These are not only exported in large quantities but are also best-selling items in online group buys.

Additionally, Pingtung County Government has for three consecutive years promoted the “Ecotourism Corridor Industry Demonstration Zone” in the three northern townships of Pingtung, building a tourism brand for northern Pingtung. Along Highway 185, routes such as “Vent Your Frustrations – Qingye and Anpo” and “Challenge the Adventure King – Qingshan Tribe Canyoning” have been introduced, allowing visitors to experience the beauty of indigenous tribal tourism.
