A Summer Trip for Furry Friends: 10 Pet-Friendly Homestays in Kenting Recommended by Locals

With the summer heat in full swing, it’s time to head to the beach again！Pet owners must be getting ready to bring their beloved furry companions along to Kenting for some splashing fun and a refreshing holiday！But when looking for accommodation, aren’t you often troubled, not knowing which homestays in Kenting allow pets？

As I own a dog myself, the places and restaurants I usually visit are mostly dog-friendly. Many fellow dog lovers who come to Kenting for vacation often ask me where they can bring their dogs. In fact, there are quite a few pet-friendly homestays in Kenting, but information about them isn’t widely available. So this time, I’ve decided to compile a list of homestays that welcome pets, personally visiting and researching each one, so everyone can happily bring their dogs along for a vacation too！

This time, we’ve specially invited our correspondent “Chobi Shiduo,” known as the “Sharon Stone of the short-legs world,” to conduct an exclusive interview. Leveraging her years of experience hopping around various homestays in Kenting (scampering around and cadging snacks), she’ll take you on an in-depth exploration to discover which pet-friendly homestays in Kenting are perfect for dogs.

01 【Lisha Town】 (Hengchun)

● Features: Spacious lawns where dogs can run and play happily

Located on Dehe Road in Hengchun, Lisha Town is a pet-friendly homestay. The female owner, Sister Sasha, loves dogs and welcomes guests to bring their pets. The homestay has set aside a large lawn area specifically so that dogs or children have space to run around. It’s kept very clean and pretty, and there’s even a badminton net set up on the grass—feel free to play a game of badminton if you like XD

The rooms at Lisha Town are all in the style of wooden cabins. This one is their villa-style double room, with a fairly spacious interior.

The backyard features a private semi-open-air bath and garden.

The homestay also has an adorable resident dog named “Xiaomi” and a cat named “Plum,” both of whom are very gentle and friendly！

Although Plum and Xiaomi get along well, Plum still nervously hid the moment she saw Chobi—after all, he’s a strange dog！(laughs)

During the shoot, I also chatted briefly with their manager to ask about his views and experiences with allowing pets. Actually, homestay owners have quite mixed feelings about pets staying over. Many are mainly concerned about the difficulty of cleaning rooms and whether owners can control their pets. However, the manager told me that in his years of work, most pet-owning guests have been very well-behaved and polite. Some even tidy up their rooms before checking out, worried about causing trouble for the homestay—it really moved them.

One of the most memorable instances was when a family with an elderly member and their dog stayed. The dog was very fierce, never leaving its family’s side, and would bark wildly at anyone who approached. When the kids went out to play, the grandmother and the dog stayed in the room, with the dog always by her side. Though it seemed a bit odd at the time, he didn’t think much of it.

Only much later, after they had left, did he find out on Facebook that the grandmother had actually been seriously ill and was hospitalized not long after. That trip might have been their family’s last together. They told him that the dog acted that way because it wanted to protect its family. After the grandmother was hospitalized and couldn’t go home, the once fierce dog suddenly became listless and looked very lonely. That trip must have been a very important memory for both the family and the dog！And isn’t that exactly the purpose of a homestay？

To many people, dogs are just like family. The manager told me that dogs are really no different from children—they require care and sometimes come with inconveniences, but a little more tolerance goes a long way. Hearing him say this truly moved me. After all, having owned dogs for so many years, I’m used to most places not being very welcoming to pets. It’s rare to find a homestay that shows such empathy toward dogs and their owners—it’s definitely a big plus.

02 【Early Summer Harmony】 (Hengchun)

Early Summer Harmony Homestay is located near Hengchun’s North Gate. It’s a design-forward, entire-house rental homestay that offers plenty of amenities at a very friendly price—offering great cost-performance. (For details, you can refer to my previous accommodation post:Early Summer Harmony)

The owners are a pair of young and very polite brothers. Having encountered all kinds of homestay hosts, I was especially impressed by their sincere hospitality. The two are passionate about running the homestay and genuinely enjoy interacting with guests. Every time I visit, they’re either maintaining the facilities or helping guests with their travel arrangements. Their minds are almost always occupied with how to make the homestay environment even better—they’re truly dedicated. Despite being extremely busy, they always seem to be having the time of their lives. I think it’s probably because they’re doing something they truly love.

The homestay is divided into Building One and Building Two, both entire-house style, each able to accommodate around ten people. Building Two has a kitchen and living room, with a spacious indoor area that also feels very high-quality and comfortable.

The rooms are all dormitory-style futons, which I feel would really help strengthen bonds when staying with classmates or family.

Building One has its own courtyard, complete with a barbecue grill, a clay oven, and tables and chairs. It’s perfect for group travelers planning a BBQ, and you can even book a clay oven pizza-making experience with them.

The courtyard has a safety fence, so it’s safe to let your dog run around freely.

The homestay has a cute resident cat named Xiaoka, who is very gentle and affectionate. Besides Xiaoka, there are occasionally other cats that stroll by the area. After feeding Xiaoka, they also feed these cats and give them water to drink—very heartwarming.

Although it’s not exclusively a pet-friendly homestay, they are very welcoming to guests traveling with pets and are quite pet-friendly overall.

Qiaobi’s comment: Wow, the feeling of having the whole place to ourselves is amazing—this whole homestay is my grassy playground~ (This guy is basically happy with just some lawn, huh?)

03 [Moonlight Frontier] (Hengchun)

● Features: Has a courtyard with grassy space for running, fences are fitted with safety mesh to prevent pets from escaping, provides pet washing area, poop bags, pee pads, and other thoughtful amenities

And when it comes to pet-friendly homestays in Kenting, you can’t not mention this dog paradise—Moonlight Frontier.

The owner of Moonlight Frontier, Grace, loves dogs and owns two Labradors and one Golden Retriever. She truly understands the needs of pets, and you can see that many design elements of the homestay are from the perspective of dog owners—such as the hot-water washing area, fenced enclosures with fine mesh (dogs can’t dig their way out, haha), spacious grassy areas, poop bags, disinfectants… etc. Every detail is thoughtfully considered, making it a genuinely pet-centric, pet-friendly homestay.

The rooms here are simply but warmly decorated, with each wall painted in warm tones that make the space feel very relaxing.

You’ll also find adorable dog and cat-themed decorations throughout the homestay.

There are three washing areas inside, one of which even has hot water to keep dogs from catching a chill in winter—so thoughtful.

In front of the lobby, in addition to mops and disinfectants, there are also readily available poop bags for owners to easily clean up after their pets. (Though it may seem minor, for someone like me who owns a dog, it’s really an important and convenient amenity—so user-friendly!)

The backyard has a BBQ area and also serves as another space for dogs to roam. While the front lawn is a gathering spot for dogs, considering that some dogs aren’t fond of socializing with others, the backyard has been designed as a separate area where these dogs can also happily run around.

I really love Moonlight Frontier. Every time I visit Grace, I always see her joyfully playing in the yard with guests and pets. In this cozy little space, the relationship between humans and animals is peaceful and joyful—it’s a place where dogs can fully enjoy the pleasures of travel. Not only dogs and cats, but even pets like rabbits, birds, pigs, frogs… etc., have stayed here, always bringing a smile to Grace’s face when she recalls them. She remembers each pet’s name and fun anecdotes in detail, and many dog owners regularly bring their furry friends back here for vacation. I think for them and their pets, this warm place must feel like their second home in Kenting.

Also, because she owns dogs, Grace knows all the restaurants in Kenting that allow pets. If you’re traveling with pets and want to dine out, you can ask her for recommendations too.

04 [Little Connection] (Eluanbi)

● Features: Has a grassy area for running with protective fences, private cottage space suitable for groups

● Pet cleaning fee required?: No (but a pet deposit of NT$500 is charged upon check-in and will be fully refunded upon checkout if no issues are found)

The next place we’re introducing is the cottage homestay “Little Connection” located near the Eluanbi Lighthouse. It also has its own courtyard with a grassy space and offers BBQ facilities, accommodating around ten people—perfect for small group trips. I’ve stayed here before with fellow dog owners (for details, see my previous lodging post:Little Connection). The owner, Jason, is very easygoing and loves interacting with guests. He often takes the initiative to introduce Kenting to visitors. Although he doesn’t own pets himself, he warmly welcomes guests to bring their furry friends along and enjoys interacting with them.

He mentioned that many people are hesitant to allow pets because they worry about rooms getting messy or smelly, but he believes that a little extra cleaning is all it takes. He doesn’t find it troublesome at all—if spending a bit more time leads to happier holidays for guests, he thinks it’s absolutely worth it.

The outdoor space at the homestay is very comfortable, with some coconut trees planted. Sitting in the yard, enjoying the breeze, creates a real vacation vibe—you can even lie in the hammock for an afternoon nap. The rooms are kept very tidy, with regular maintenance and repainting, so they still look quite new and cozy.

There are two rooms in total: a four-person room and a six-person room. But basically, they only offer entire cottage rentals, so there are no outside guests—you can fully enjoy your own private space. The bathroom is super, super spacious (lol).

05 [Caor Xiang Lang] (Longpan)

Caor Xiang Lang is a cottage-style homestay located near Puding and Longpan Park. The rooms are uniquely decorated, featuring an industrial-style design both inside and out. The front yard has an outdoor grassy space, while the side has an open-style simple kitchen equipped with various cookware, a water dispenser, as well as a rain-sheltered wooden awning with tables and chairs—perfect for cooking, barbecuing, and dining. The backyard has a small splash pool for playing in the water.

The homestay owners, Adong and Wenzi, are friends I’ve known for a long time in Kenting. They decided to move here and settle down because they fell in love with the carefree lifestyle. Their personalities are as laid-back and relaxed as the pace of life here. Spending time with them is always fun and comfortable. They also have an adorable little calico cat named “Ahua” and a dog named “A Bi,” who are Qiaobi’s good friends. Their chonky levels are on par with Qiaobi’s too (lol).

Qiaobi’s Review: Wow, can I really enjoy such a stylishly designed homestay? I feel like after staying here, I’ve become so refined I ace every exam~

06 [Banana Bay Homestay] (Banana Bay)

Banana Bay Homestay is located right next to Banana Bay Fishing Port and is very close to the sea, making it super convenient for water activities. Each room is very spacious and comes with an ocean-view balcony, offering beautiful sea views — perfect for a seaside vacation vibe.

You can enjoy the beautiful sea directly from your room with an amazing view.

Even sitting on the first floor, you can cool off while gazing at the sea. The pace here is really laid-back, giving off that classic tropical island vibe. There are also two very friendly cats named Ocean and Handsome who love people.

I feel like dogs living by the sea must be so happy, just chilling under the shade, staring at the sea, and napping in the afternoon. I wish I could do that every day too (lol).

The best part about staying at this homestay, in my opinion, is how close it is to the sea — you can just walk there to swim or snorkel. There's also a shallow area near Banana Bay, which is great for bringing kids or dogs to splash around.

Qiaobi: Mom — you lied to me!! The water here goes up to my chest!! (It’s just your legs are too short!)

07 【Summer Point】 (Kalehuashui)

Located in the surfing paradise of Kalehuashui, this Summer Point was opened by owner Chris, who fell in love with surfing and decided to settle here and start this seaside lifestyle. From the owner to the staff, almost everyone is a passionate surfer. It's common to see surfers getting ready to hit the waves or just coming back ashore, creating a warm and lively atmosphere.

The first floor is their brunch restaurant, serving a variety of delicious American-style breakfasts and drinks with big portions and great taste. Whenever I visit Kalehuashui, I always stop by for a burger — it’s seriously so tasty XD

Another memorable thing about Summer Point besides the many surfing friends is their adorable resident dogs.

They have seven dogs in total, each with its own personality. One even follows the manager to the beach and waits for him on shore when he goes surfing — super cute. During the shoot, I chatted with the manager, who told me that aside from guests traveling with their dogs or surfers, many visitors come specifically for the companionship of these dogs. For those who can’t have pets at home, the dogs here offer a lot of comfort and healing.

Aww — seeing those cute eyes just melts my heart.

They’ve also turned these dogs into postcards sold in the shop, with three different designs — all so adorable.

Qiaobi’s review: I wanna come here often. Maybe one day I’ll learn to surf too.

08 【Ha Cheese】 (Hengchun)

Next up is the CHEESE Pet Homestay located in Hengchun Town. The couple who run this homestay are extremely friendly and have two cats and two dogs of their own. Because they love animals, when they decided to move back to Hengchun, they chose to open a pet-friendly homestay where travelers can bring their cats and dogs along for a comfortable stay in Kenting.

Interestingly, they provide each dog guest with a can of Friskies for breakfast and also give guests a Polaroid photo before departure as a keepsake — I find that incredibly thoughtful.

This is their unique boat room, decorated in an ocean theme, with beds designed to look like little boats, giving you the feeling of being out at sea.

The buttons on the dashboard are real and function as light switches in the room — super cool, XD.

It’s worth mentioning that in addition to human beds, they’ve also prepared separate pet beds. Owners can put their pets’ familiar mats or blankets on them. It’s the first time I’ve seen a homestay with dedicated pet beds — they really go the extra mile for pets. (Is Qiaobi checking behind for food?)

There’s an outdoor washing area available.

They even offer a pet hair dryer, which is pretty rare — it’s seriously a dog-grooming essential~

The resident dogs, Toro and Bagel, play well together and have super fluffy fur that you just want to hug tightly XD.

There’s also a cute swing outside, perfect for photos.

09 [Gas Station Homestay] (Longpan)

This Gas Station Homestay is located near Longpan Park and is a pet-friendly accommodation that welcomes pets. The front yard is quite spacious, allowing dogs to roam freely. There’s also a simple kitchen in the yard equipped with an oven and stove, so you can even have a barbecue here — it’s great for small groups looking to book the whole place for a gathering.

The rooms have a minimalist style and are well maintained, making for a very comfortable stay.

Qiaobi’s review: Mmm~ the feeling of having a whole place to sunbathe is great. It’s also close to Longpan Grassland — mommy, why don’t you take me running on the grassland already?

10 [Honki House] (Hengchun)

● Features: Japanese-style, owner cooks delicious food

Finally, the last recommendation is Honki House, located in Hengchun Town. The first floor is a restaurant decorated with a charming Japanese atmosphere, serving various Japanese set meals along with coffee and alcoholic beverages. The owner is an excellent cook — it’s my favorite restaurant in Hengchun, and I often find myself craving the food he makes. The stay also comes with breakfast, where you can enjoy his cooking too. The second floor houses the guest rooms, each thoughtfully decorated to create a warm, tidy, and cozy atmosphere. The owner, Ah Ben, is a big fan of Japan, so not only does the shop have a Japanese-style interior, but the walls are also adorned with many scenic photos he took in Japan. Many of them made me feel nostalgic and even tempted me to visit Japan again.

Qiaobi: Is this table height designed just for me? (It’s perfectly suited, XD)

The shop has an incredibly adorable dog named “Huang Meixia.” Yes… don’t doubt it—that name, which sounds like it could belong to an auntie or neighbor, is indeed the dog’s real name. When I first heard it, I thought I had misheard. It’s just too cute!

The other one is named “Huang Meihao.” The names of these two are so unique, they’re hard to forget, XD.

The owners, Ah Ben and Money, are super friendly and also very fond of cats and dogs. As a result, their homestay and restaurant are very pet-welcome. Perhaps it’s because the atmosphere here is always warm and cozy that staying here feels really comfortable. I often drop by with Qiaobi when I have nothing else to do, just to hang out and kill time.

That’s all for this round of ten pet-friendly homestays in Kenting that I’ve compiled and found quite nice. There are options with lawn spaces, as well as ones close to the beach—you can choose based on your preferences. In fact, there are many more unique pet-friendly homestays in Kenting, but please note that these are “pet-friendly” rather than “pet-exclusive” accommodations. The basic rules are, of course, no allowing pets on the beds, being mindful of pet bathroom issues, and never leaving pets alone in the room. I believe that if we all strive to be considerate travelers, many homestays will be very welcoming to cats and dogs.
