In addition to famous wonders in Nantou, Hualien, and Taitung, the deep mountains and coastal areas of Hsinchu also offer healing forest scenery that rivals those regions. 1. Smangus
 
Smangus is known as the “Tribe of God,” located in the most secluded part of the Snow Mountain Range. It was the last place in Taiwan to receive electricity and road access, preserving the purest and most untouched scenic beauty. The Smangus Giant Tree Trail is a must-see attraction here, featuring Taiwan’s second and third tallest red cypress trees. The entire trail is about 5.2 kilometers long, and a round trip on foot takes approximately 4 to 5 hours.

2. Maowu Fort Exploration Forest
 
A forest secret spot in Hsinchu’s Guanxi area, Maowu Fort Exploration Forest is situated within a Tayal tribal community. The expansive parkland fosters a diverse and ever-changing natural ecosystem. It’s also a popular filming location for movies and idol dramas. It gained overnight fame after the construction of Green Light Elementary School for the idol drama “Green Forest” 10 years ago, and later became a filming site for the movie “Seediq Bale.” This dreamlike forest wonderland attracts large crowds for visits and photo opportunities.

3. Guanwu National Forest Recreation Area
 
Guanwu is located at the border between Wufeng Township in Hsinchu County and Tai’an Township in Miaoli County. The area is often shrouded in sea of clouds and mist, hence nicknamed the “Home of Clouds.” The journey offers breathtaking scenery, where floating sea of clouds appear and disappear, showcasing the grandeur of nature. The Guanwu recreation area, with an altitude of around 1,800 meters, is the best starting point and essential route for viewing Dabajian Mountain. It features several forest trails, and the region is home to many unique or endangered species of flora and fauna that are found only in Taiwan or even the world.
