Miniature Gassho Village Railway Landmark    Japan's Only Thatched-Station

  Japan’s traditional architectural features, combined with quaint railways and stations, are must-visit spots for many travelers. Located in Shimogō Town, Fukushima Prefecture, the “Yunokami Onsen Station” is an essential stop between destinations and a gateway to Ōuchi-juku. It is also one of the Tohoku Hyakusen Stations and the only station in all of Japan built entirely with a thatched roof—making it a unique attraction that railway enthusiasts simply cannot miss.

Although Yunokami Onsen Station is just a small stop, it exudes a strong Edo-period atmosphere. The station features an irori (traditional sunken hearth) and sells local specialty products. The hearth burns year-round, serving not only as a tourist attraction but also helping to drive away insects that nest in the thatched roof using smoke. In addition, there is a spacious free foot bath nearby where visitors can soak their feet while leisurely watching trains arrive.
