The 13th typhoon of the season, Hato (internationally named Hato), a mild tropical storm, formed around 2:00 p.m. on the 20th. The Central Weather Bureau also issued a sea warning for the typhoon at 11:30 p.m. on the 20th. It was originally expected that a land warning would be issued at 2:30 p.m., but due to the storm's fast movement, a land warning for Taitung and Pingtung may be issued as early as 11:30 a.m.

If the typhoon’s path shows no significant changes, the Central Weather Bureau expects to issue both sea and land typhoon warnings at 2:30 p.m. today.
Taitung, the Hengchun Peninsula, and Pingtung regions will bear the brunt and require special attention.

Typhoon Hato has a 7-level storm radius of 100 kilometers, moving west-northwest at a speed of 12 to 20 kilometers per hour. Currently located in the sea east-southeast of Eluanbi, the storm circle is approaching the Bashi Channel, posing a threat to the southeastern sea areas of Taiwan and the Bashi Channel.

Starting from the afternoon of August 21, under the influence of the typhoon and its peripheral circulation, long waves will occur in eastern Taiwan (including Orchid Island and Green Island), the Hengchun Peninsula, and coastal areas in the southwest. Please stay safe when engaging in seaside activities, and avoid going to the shore as much as possible. In addition to increasing rainfall in the eastern part, southern regions will also experience rainy conditions until tomorrow afternoon. Forecasts indicate that Typhoon Hato will come very close to Hong Kong on Wednesday and impact the area. Travelers planning to visit Hong Kong in the coming days should pay extra attention.
