After the success of the same-sex marriage constitutional interpretation, Taiwan became the first country in Asia to guarantee marriage equality. In October 2017, alongside the first Taiwan Pride parade following the interpretation, Hornet launched the “Taipei Pride Month” series of events to encourage LGBTQ+ individuals to proudly be themselves. Together with the Taipei City Government Department of Information and Tourism, they sent out the message of “A Diverse City, Friendly Taipei” internationally through digital technology.

Jian Yuyan, Director of the Tourism and Communications Department of the Taipei City Government, said: “The 2016 Pride Parade attracted 5,000 international tourists to Taiwan, and the W Hotel was fully booked as a result, generating over NT$100 million in tourism revenue. This year, we warmly invite friends from all over the world to join in the pride month activities, experience Taipei’s diversity, warmth, and friendliness, and also take the opportunity to visit areas such as Dadaocheng and Wanhua to see a different side of Taipei.”

Christof Wittig, Global CEO of Hornet, also traveled from San Francisco, USA to attend the opening of Hornet Taipei Pride Month. He said: “I’m very happy that everyone can bravely come out today and meet in a public space like Huashan.”

The series of events include the 《W Taipei - W Pride Week "Queer Me Out"》 exhibition featuring a range of topics on LGBT fashion, film, same-sex marriage and parenting, and music talks, the Love is Love same-sex wedding fair, as well as the 《Formosa Pride 2017, Taipei Pride Party powered by DES》 gay party, and of course the 《Taiwan LGBT Pride, Taiwan Pride Parade！》 to be held on October 28.
