After the recent opening of the Taiping Skywalk suspension bridge, a popular new landmark in Chiayi, it sparked heated discussions and attracted many visitors. The bridge of the Taiping Skywalk is adorned with nearly a thousand LED multicolored light strips. Although it shines brilliantly at night, there are concerns about light pollution affecting the habitat of wildlife. Therefore, the Alishan National Scenic Area Administration has adopted a compromise measure, limiting total lighting time to 30 minutes per day to reduce ecological impact.

The light display facilities of the Taiping Skywalk carry the meaning of illuminating Chiayi. From 7 to 9 PM every evening, the lights go on for 10 minutes at each full hour — the first 5 minutes feature colorful lights, and the next 5 minutes are steady illumination. An assessment of the ecological impact of the light show will be conducted by experts and scholars before the end of the year.
