The central pressure of Typhoon Lan is 970 hPa, with maximum sustained winds near the center at 33 meters per second and gusts reaching up to 43 meters per second. The radius of the area experiencing typhoon-force winds (Beaufort Scale 7) is 180 kilometers, and that of violent storm-force winds (Beaufort Scale 10) is 50 kilometers. Typhoon Lan has been rapidly intensifying and is predicted to be the strongest typhoon of the year so far, with potential to develop into a very strong typhoon heading straight for Japan.
Due to the influence of the northeast monsoon, a heavy rain advisory has been issued for northern and northeastern Taiwan. There will be rain in Keelung and the northern coast, scattered showers in northern and northeastern Taiwan, isolated brief showers in eastern and southeastern regions, and mostly cloudy to sunny weather elsewhere, including Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu. Isolated brief thunderstorms may occur in mountainous areas of central and southern Taiwan in the afternoon. Strong winds are expected over the eastern seas and land areas, which require special caution.
