Finally, it’s here—the Gashapon conveyor-belt sushi chain Kurazushi is coming to Kaohsiung!

Following the opening of its fourth store at Mitsui Outlet Park, news has emerged about the fifth location of Japan’s top three conveyor-belt sushi chains, Kurazushi (くら寿司)! The fifth branch will be located in Hanshin Dome Shopping Mall in Kaohsiung, which is great news for all conveyor-belt sushi lovers in the city—finally, you can enjoy sushi while playing with gashapon!The standard price per plate at Kurazushi is NT$40, though special sushi items (such as sashimi) may be priced differently.

Currently, Kurazushi has opened stores in Songjiang Nanjing, Taichung Guang San SOGO, JC PARK Zhongli, and Mitsui OUTLET. The fifth store will cross the Zhuoshui River and head south to the seventh floor of Hanshin Dome in Kaohsiung. The site is currently under construction with wooden hoardings up, and the expected opening time is in autumn.

Nobuhiro Nishikawa, General Manager of Kurazushi Taiwan, stated that the chain's expansion into Taiwan was primarily driven by the company president’s deep gratitude for Taiwan’s support to Japan after the 311 earthquake. Coupled with the invitation from the Ministry of Economic Affairs to invest, market research began four years ago, and the first Taiwan store finally opened in December 2014. As for Kurazushi’s expansion plans in Taiwan, Nishikawa said that the Japanese parent company aims to open 50 branches in Taiwan.
