Starbucks specialty stores can be found all over the world. Following the opening of the world’s first branch where you can enjoy coffee on tatami mats in Kyoto, a new location has recently been chosen in Kawagoe, a tourist destination known as “Little Edo.” The store is designed in the traditional kurazukuri architectural style and incorporates modern interior design to create a Kawagoe café with an Edo-period atmosphere.

The exterior of the Starbucks Kawagoe Kane Dori Store features the traditional kurazukuri architecture of Kawagoe, using cedar wood from Saitama Prefecture, with roof tiles painted in black and white. The interior elements such as the coffee counter and wooden stools are crafted with local artisan designs. Here, you can not only enjoy the Japanese ambiance of the Edo period but also savor the rich flavors of modern coffee.

The most iconic landmark in Kawagoe is the Toki no Kane (Bell of Time), which has been marking time in the region for 400 years. Every day at 6 AM, 12 PM, 3 PM, and 6 PM, you can hear its clear chime. While enjoying the rich aroma of coffee, you can also stroll through the old streets accompanied by the sound of the bell, experiencing an Edo-era atmosphere that bridges past and present.
