Promoting Korea’s Charm: Hwang Chi-yeul Appointed as 2018 Korean Tourism Ambassador

The highly popular Korean singer in Chinese-speaking regions, Hwang Chi-yeul, was officially appointed as the Republic of Korea’s Tourism Ambassador by the Korea Tourism Organization on July 24. It is hoped that his wide appeal will boost Korea’s tourism promotion efforts, help the world better understand Korean culture and tourism, draw more visitors to various destinations across Korea, and enhance the overall quality of tourism in Korea.

Hwang Chi-yeul rose to fame in Korea in 2015 after appearing on Mnet’s “I Can See Your Voice.” The following year, he participated in China’s “I Am a Singer—Season 4,” where his outstanding vocal performance made him a widely recognized Korean singer across Asia. As the newly appointed Korean Tourism Ambassador, he will actively participate in various domestic and international promotional events for Korean tourism, showcasing the charm and culture of Korea to the world.

Among other activities, Hwang Chi-yeul will also appear in a Korean tourism promotional video themed around the beauty of “destination tourism” in various corners of Korea. As the tourism ambassador, he hopes to share with his overseas fans the charm of Korea as he sees it and to express his gratitude for their support.

Additionally, the Korean Tourism Ambassadors for 2016 and 2017 were played by two highly popular Korean stars, Song Joong-ki and Lee Jong-suk, respectively. This year, the torch is passed to the popular Korean singer Hwang Chi-yeul, and expectations are high for another effective promotion of Korean tourism.
